Eliminate Texting & Driving - $2,000 USD Total Compensation

We all know that texting and driving is dangerous and has become a major cause of auto accidents, injuries and deaths. Teens are especially affected by this phenomenon with 97% saying it is dangerous, yet 43% admitting to texting while driving.

Breaking the texting habit without breaking the habit

Giving the text message visual and auditory representation in the vehicle in a way that allows the driver to send and receive message without distracting from the task of driving while prohibiting the use of the device to send or receive messages.

Full Description

Texting itself is an aquired habit. The frist time someone sends or receives a text messages it is a very clumsy affair of trying to balance ones current task with reading and responding. Once someone sends text message for long enough it becomes second nature. Telling the driver no they cannot text does not work making it illegal is a mild deterant at best. The best way to deal with it would be to allow them to text but in a way that would not take their eyes off the road or hands off the wheel.

A system that would give the vehicle the ability to display a text message in a manor that does not distract from the task of driving but will also read the message to the driver and allow the driver verbally respond with out reaching for the device. The system should be completely automatic activating as soon as the key is turned in the ignition linking up with the device and disabling the devices ability to display or send text messages. The system would act as a sort of "secretary" receiving messages then reading them to the driver and taking the verbal input from the driver and sending it.

Additional Information

There is a company based in Taiwan, China Polytron Technologies that has unveiled a transparent phone showing the technology. It is very plausible the technology can be up scaled and applied to the front windshield of a vehicle or retrofit it to an older vehicle. With the hardware in the works the software just need development.
