Eliminate Texting & Driving - $2,000 USD Total Compensation

We all know that texting and driving is dangerous and has become a major cause of auto accidents, injuries and deaths. Teens are especially affected by this phenomenon with 97% saying it is dangerous, yet 43% admitting to texting while driving.

10 Ways of Eliminating Texting While Driving

The numerous accidents caused by drivers as a result of texting while driving would be reduced and consequently eliminated by adopting the following 10 measures.

Full Description

1. Adequate Legislation: Legislations should be enacted across all the states in the US and indeed across all countries of the world that would address the problems associated with texting while driving. Furthermore, adequate punitive measures must be meted out to offenders who send text messages while driving.

2. Regular sensitization of drivers: The regular sensitization of drivers and motorists especially young persons who may indulge in texting while driving. These sensitization efforts must be carried out by the appropriate government agency or department in-charge of road safety. These agencies of government can also work closely with other relevant non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in addressing the challenges posed by texting while driving.

3. Removing batteries from phones while driving: In order to avoid the temptation of texting while driving, drivers can remove the batteries from their phones while on the steering. This would drastically eliminate the possibility of sending or receiving text messages while driving.

4. Wearing driving gloves: driving gloves has proven to be very effective in discouraging texting while driving. Thus, drivers should be instructed and encouraged to wear driving gloves as this would ensure safe driving by eliminating any form of text messaging while on the wheels.

5. Using an auto-reply system in mobile phones:  Auto-reply system in cell phones would help reduce the need for drivers to send text messages while driving. The cell phones with this feature thus become a very helpful tool as automated messages and responses are sent by the phone to a caller without the interference of the driver while driving.

6. Embedding text message disabling software in mobile phones: Software that disables the text message feature of phones in motion would eliminate any form of texting while driving. Mobile phone manufacturers should as a matter of safety embed this feature in their phones to guarantee safe driving habits among drivers and road users.

7. Using mobile phones as music streaming device: Music streaming through a mobile phone would help reduce the use of mobile phones while driving. This is certain since the phone is engaged therefore eliminating the possibility of incoming text messages which may distract the driver on the steering wheel. This approach would be particularly useful in reducing road crashes and accidents especially among young drivers and teenagers.

8. Road signs and inscriptions: Road signs and inscriptions warning drivers of the dangers of texting while driving could be placed at strategic areas and on bill boards along major roads and highways. These inscriptions would therefore serve as a constant reminder to all drivers who may want to indulge in texting while driving.

9. Incorporating beep features in vehicles: when warning beeps are built into vehicles that warn drivers of the dangers of texting when the text feature of a phone is activated or when a phone is switched on, it would definitely reduce the eagerness of motorists and drivers to use the text messaging feature and consequently reduce road crashes and accidents caused by texting while driving.

10. Regular TV commercials and media campaign on the dangers of texting while driving: The use of the electronic and print media in passing vital information on the demerits of texting while driving would be a constant reminder to college students, teenagers and other vulnerable groups in the society. Visuals and cartoons of accident scenes as a result of texting while driving should be publicly displayed in major public places such as schools, hospitals and recreational centers. TV commercials involving scenes of accidents can be shown on TV stations which would inevitably serve as reminders to drivers of the dangers inherent in texting while driving and consequently reduce and eliminate the carnage on roads as a result of texting while driving.
